The Google Search Engine helps you find things on the internet. Without a search engine you would have to know and type in the address of every website that you want to visit. The search engine helps you find websites by using the keywords that you type into the search bar.

How does Google know where my website is?

Google sends out robots that travel all over the internet, think of them like map makers, creating a large map of all the websites on the internet and where they are, including your website. They find websites by following links. An important way to ensure that your website pages are found by Google is to include a website site map on your website. The site map has links to all your pages so that Google will index them (map them) for you.

How do people find my website?

Google search is based on keywords. So when I type in the keyword "Ocean" into Google, I find "Ocean - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" to be the first listing.

WHY?

It is the goal of Google to help you find what you want on the internet. It does this by looking at all the content on the internet and locates the most relevant information based on keywords. So for the keyword "Ocean", Google believes, this is the most relevant page on the internet and it will provide you with the answers that you need.

So, how does Google rank my website?

Google uses a 200 part algorithm, give or take, to rank websites based on keywords to determine if your webpage is what the user is searching for or not. Now the Google Algorithm is a secret, so no one knows all the parts and they are always making changes so that more relevant content is brought to the surface.

Each one of your website's pages are ran through the algorithm to determine if it is relevant or not and ranked accordingly. Optimally you want to show up within the first ten search results, and the goal is always #1. The top ten search results are seen immediately by searchers and searchers very rarely go to the second or third pages. Instead they will simply type in another search query or keyword.

How can I improve my website rank?

Improving your website rank can be a simple process, depending on the keywords that you are wanting to rank better for. Contact me to start improving your search engine results.
